Location: Camp Timpoochee, Niceville, FL

COSEE Central Gulf of Mexico will sponsor the Annual Southern Association of Marine Educators (SAME) Conference November 13-15, 2009 at Camp Timpoochee in Niceville, Florida. The theme, Climate Change Through Ocean Literacy, will be addressed by Dr. Allison Beaurogard (Northwest Florida State College) speaking on Ocean Acidification, and Dr. Wade Jeffrey (University of West Florida) who will discuss Ozone Depletion. Participants will also learn activities to use in class regarding these topics. The workshop will include regular SAME activities including the Business Meeting and Silent Auction with Social.

The venue, Camp Timpoochee, is a 4-H camp established on Choctawhatchee Bay in 1926. Field trips designed to give participants a real sense of the coastal marine environment include a kayak trip to search for diamondback terrapins in Lake Pippin, and an introduction to ecosystems of Waltan County coastal dune lakes.
