Critically Endangered: Can Vaquita Be Saved From Extinction?
Date: 11/10/09 7:00 pm - 11/10/09
Location: Aquarium of the Pacific, Long Beach, CA

Vaquita, a small porpoise in the far northern Gulf of California, is the most critically endangered marine mammal in the world. Barbara Taylor was the US lead scientist on a tri-nation 2008 expedition designed to develop new monitoring methods and population estimates to assist the Mexican government in saving the vaquita. Dr. Taylor will discuss the expedition results and show us the best video and photographs ever seen of this rare animal. She is a supervisory research fish biologist with NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service.
