COSEE at NSTA 2008

The annual conference of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) will be held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center on March 27-30, 2008. COSEE will staff a booth in Exhibit Hall throughout the conference and present the following courses and sessions:

Friday, March 28

  • COSEE: Salting Away for Our Future - Resources for Understanding the Ocean's Role in Climate Change, Short Course (SC-18), Regis Room. Janice McDonnell, Annette deCharon, and Liesl Hotaling will lead this course. (3:00-6:00 pm)

Saturday, March 29
Location: Provincetown Room

  • Using Real-Time Ocean Observing Data to Create Authentic Science Investigation for Students (Liesl Hotaling, 8:00-9:00 am)
  • Ocean Systems: Investigating Climate Through Ocean Visualization & Inquiry (Annette deCharon, 9:30-10:30 am)
  • The New England Ocean Science Education Collaborative (NEOSEC) - A Partnership to Promote Ocean Science Literacy Presentation (Diana Payne and JB Kavaliauskas, 11:00 am-12:00 pm)
  • Not Your Grandmother's Squid Dissection Workshop (Emily Weiss, 12:30-1:00 pm)
  • Sunken Empire: Shipwrecks from Spain's Golden Age (Clarice Yentsch, 1:00-1:30 pm)
  • Bringing Authentic Ocean Science to the Classroom (Harold A. McWilliams, 2:00-2:30 pm)
  • Bringing the Ocean to the Classroom Using the Coastal Ocean Observation Laboratory (COOL) (Janice D. McDonnell, 2:30-3:00 pm)
  • Knowing Your Salt: NASA Aquarius & Future of Ocean Observing by Satellite (Annette DeCharon, 3:30-4:30 pm)
  • The QuikSCience Challenge (Judith D. Lemus, Terri Bidle, and Kathleen Dykes, 5:00-5:30 pm)
