National Hurricane Center: 2013 5th Grade Webinars (Northeast Coast States)
Date: 05/08/13 10:00 am ET - 05/08/13 11:00 am ET
Location: Online
Attendance: 5th grade classes in Northeast Coast states

The Gulf Coast Regional Hurricane Preparedness Webinars were a great success! Over 5,000 students from 89 schools in 6 states were able to tune in, interact with hurricane scientists/hurricane hunters, and have their questions answered about hurricanes and how to get ready for the upcoming 2013 hurricane season..

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) and the Hurricanes: Science and Society (HSS) team invite 5th grade classes to participate in the next session of hurricane webinars for southeast and northeast regions of the U.S. that are prone to hurricanes. During these 1-hour webinars, students will hear from NHC scientists and forecasters, as well as NOAA Aircraft Operations Center (AOC) personnel that fly into hurricanes. A presentation on region-specific hurricane science and preparedness will be given with interactive questions and polls. Classroom questions will also be collected in advance of the webinar; as many of these questions as possible will be answered by the hurricane scientists. Introductory materials and helpful links will be supplied to all participating educators.

Schools/classes wanting to participate MUST REGISTER in advance. Please visit the National Hurricane Center: 2013 5th Grade Webinars page in the Resources section of the Hurricanes: Science and Society website for more details and registration information.

Please note, registration will close one week in advance of each webinar.

Northeast Coast states include: New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.
