2013 Hurricane Webinar Series For Educators: Forecasting Hurricane Sandy

Please join the Hurricanes: Science and Society (HSS) team at the University of Rhode Island's Graduate School of Oceanography for the 2013 Hurricane Educators Webinar Series. This series of three, 1-hour webinars will focus on current topics in tropical cyclones and preparation for the upcoming 2013 Atlantic Hurricane Season. The 2013 Hurricanes: Science and Society (HSS) Webinar Series for Educators is presented by The University of Rhode Island, Graduate School of Oceanography in partnership with the Centers for Ocean Sciences Education Excellence (COSEE). Special thanks to our panelists from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Registration is now open for the first webinar in the series, “Forecasting Hurricane Sandy”, which will be led by the Director of the National Hurricane Center, Dr. Rick Knabb.
The webinars are open to informal science educators, formal science educators (especially middle and high school teachers), instructors of undergraduate level courses, and other educators. Forecasting Hurricane Sandy

Hurricane Sandy was a classic, late-season storm that would become the deadliest and most destructive hurricane of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season. Preliminary U.S. damage estimates for Sandy are over $50 billion, making it the second-costliest cyclone, only behind Hurricane Katrina, in U.S. history. Join Dr. Knabb for a look at the challenges of forecasting Hurricane Sandy, Tuesday, May 21 at 4:30 pm ET.
