From January 17 through February 13, 2015, a team of scientists from several different research institutions, including Dr. Amy Waterhouse from Scripps Oceanographic Institution, Dr. Pete Strutton from the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies University of Tasmania, Dr. Sam Kelly from University of Minnesota-Duluth, Dr. Luc Rainville from the Applied Physics Lab, University of Washington, amongst others will be sailing on Schmidt Ocean Institute’s research vessel Falkor, to explore hidden tides or giant underwater waves in the Tasman Sea, which will help provide information on future climate forecasting. The scientists will be working jointly with another team aboard research vessel Roger Revelle to investigate these subsurface water movements.

COSEE California (Dr. Cheryl Peach) and COSEE Island Earth (Dr. Judy Lemus) are collaborating with SOI on this research cruise to provide outreach to schools and broader audiences.

Researchers and educators will be posting daily photos, videos, and written blogs here:

We hope you will take the opportunity to share this with your students and colleagues, and enjoy watching, reading and learning about this largely unexplored part of Earth!
