Public understanding of ocean science is increasingly important as society faces complex environmental issues that require rigorous research. Communicating scientific complexity to the public is challenging, thus emergent scientists can benefit from professional development (PD) that helps them connect their research to its societal impacts. The COSEE network has developed, implemented, and tested several PD models with early career scientists, which will be shared during the webinar event. Ideas for future PD will also be discussed with a focus on the needs of early career scientists based in Europe.
