Sue CookDr. Susan Cook (‘Sue’ to her friends and colleagues) is the Education Director at CORE and the Principal Investigator for the Central Coordinating Office grant.   Sue’s involvement with the COSEE Network began during her tenure as a Associate Program Officer at NSF where she was the COSEE program manager in the Division of Ocean Sciences from 2002-2004.  For the seventeen years prior to her NSF work,  Sue directed Education Programs at two Marine Research Laboratories (BBSR and HBOI) where she served as an administrator and research mentor connecting students at all levels (K-gray) with science.   Sue received her B.A. from Tulane University before heading to Duke to get her Ph.D. in Zoology/Biological Oceanography.  She completed her postdoctoral work at the Bunting Institute of Radcliffe College, Harvard University.

Susan GanterDr. Susan Ganter is the COSEE National Network Director. She became involved with the Network through her work in mathematics and science education, including an interest in collaborative efforts between scientists and educators. In addition to her COSEE work, Dr. Ganter is an Associate Professor of Mathematical Sciences at Clemson University. Previous affiliations include the Association for Women in Science, the National Science Foundation, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Dr. Ganter completed her graduate work at the University of California, Santa Barbara, with undergraduate degrees from Southern Methodist University.

Henry HopeHenry Hope is the Education Coordinator at CORE.  Henry oversees many aspects of the Network communications, and public outreach and awareness efforts for the COSEE Central Coordinating Office, in addition to organizing Network meetings.  His responsibilities at CORE also include work on the National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB), the ORION program and data collection and analysis on graduate and undergraduate programs affiliated with CORE.  Before getting involved with the COSEE network Henry taught middle and high school science in Connecticut.  He is currently working on a master's degree in Environmental Science and Policy at The Johns Hopkins University.  He received is B.A. in Biology from Vassar College.

Lee LarkinLee Larkin is one of three Principal Investigators and she is also responsible for the COSEE.net website. Lee works as a marine educator for the Virginia Sea Grant Program at the Virginia institute of Marine Science, College of William and Mary. This program has been active in developing and disseminating of resources for ocean education for many years, including the Bridge (http://www.marine-ed.org/bridge), a website providing on-line access to ocean education resources for educators nation-wide. The Bridge is a CCO partner. The Bridge staff develops and maintains the COSEE.net website and collaborates with the Digital Library for Earth System Education to manage information about COSEE’s announcements and resources for national dissemination. Lee received her B.S. in Biology and Education from Longwood College and her M.A. in Science Education from College of William and Mary.

Mike SeamanDr. Michael Seaman is the Evaluator for the CCO and the COSEE Network. Mike helps the CCO determine how to create evaluations to look at the Network as a whole. Outside of COSEE Mike is the Associate Dean for Administration and Research, and on the faculty as Associate Professor of Educational Research at the University of South Carolina. Mike received his B.A in Physics from Southern College in Southern Dale, TN. His master’s of Research Methods in Educational Psychology came from Andrews University and he got his Ph.D. in Quantitative Methods in Educational Psychology from the University of Wisconsin.

Billy SpitzerDr. William Spitzer is currently the chair of the National COSEE Council, and also serves as the Principal Investigator for COSEE New England. He is the chair of the New England Ocean Science Collaborative (NEOSEC) and he works as the Vice President for Programs, Exhibits, and Planning at the New England Aquarium. There he is responsible for development of mission-driven exhibits and programs, including oversight of exhibit design, animal husbandry, volunteer, education programs, and strategic planning. Previous to the Aquarium, he worked at TERC, an educational research and development firm in Cambridge, MA. He then became the director of Education at the New England Aquarium before holding his current position. He has also served as Principal Investigator for a number of other NSF funded informal science education projects. Dr. Spitzer brings extensive experience in informal science education and curriculum development, as well as a background in physics, chemistry and oceanography to his position at the New England Aquarium. He holds a Ph.D. in Oceanography from MIT and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and a B.A. in Chemistry and Physics from Harvard University.

Tara SteuberTara Steuber is working with Dr. Ganter remotely in South Carolina. Some of her tasks include helping with contacts, assisting with website information as well as document organizing. Tara became involved with the CCO through her graduate assistantship. She is currently a master’s student at Clemson University in Mathematical Sciences. She received a B.A. with majors in Mathematics and Spanish from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN.
