"Captain's Log"

Goals

1. Provide students with an opportunity to give feedback to the instructor.

2. Get the students to reflect on what they've learned in the form of a personal journal.

3. Assessment of student progress and comprehension.

Time

Initial introduction time of project approximately 10 minutes, journal is take-home work so little or no class-time is occupied.

Procedure

2. On Wednesday and Friday mornings during this unit check each student's journal to make sure they completed their journal assignment for the night. Mark for credit.

3. Collect journals on Friday, return on Monday after reviewing and writing comments.

Materials

a notebook for each student

Assessment

Since this assignment is a personal journal the students will not be graded and will be marked "complete" or "incomplete" instead and given appropriate credit.

Curricular Standards and Major Concepts

1. Language Arts - students will practice critical thinking in the form of journal writing.

2. Interpersonal Communication - will help students get comfortable with providing their instructor with personal input and feedback.
