DAY ONE

  1. Internet Research on Gods of the oceans - 3 1/2 hours
  2. Introduction to the Geography of The Odyssey and salt dough maps -1 1/2 hour
  3. Begin read aloud of The Odyssey and introduce read aloud guide - 1 hour


DAY TWO

  1. Read aloud of The Odyssey and discussion -3/4 hour
  2. Finish salt dough maps (i.e. paint and label) - 2 hours
  3. Buoyancy experiments and "Bill Nye the Science Guy" -1 1/2 hours
  4. Ship history and ship making - 1 3/4 hours


DAY THREE

  1. Ship Regatta (Finish ships and sailing) - 1 hour
  2. Read aloud, discussion, and map labels - 1 hour
  3. Introduction to sea monsters and connections to The Odyssey - 1/4 hour
  4. Adopt-A-Sea Monster Newscast - 3 3/4 hours


DAY FOUR

  1. Practice Newscasts/Tape Newscasts/Watch Newscasts - 2 1/2 hours
  2. Read aloud, discussion, and map labels - 1 hour
  3. Papier mache sea monsters - 2 1/2 hours


DAY FIVE

  1. Papier mache painting and poem creation - 1 1/2 hours
  2. Sonar Activities
  3. Telephone introduction to sound - 1 hour
  4. Graphing and mapping the bottom of the ocean floor - 1 hour
  5. Finish papier mache painting and read poems - 1 hour
  6. Read aloud, discussion, and map labels - 1 hour

DAY SIX

  1. dough mapping activity (i.e. calculating distances) - 3/4 hour
  2. Introduction to the Bermuda Triangle using mapping skills - 2 hours
  3. Introduction to Bermuda Triangle disappearances and Experiment #1 on Magnetism/Compasses - 1 hour
  4. Create a Tour Book of a mythical place - 1 1/2 hours

DAY SEVEN

  1. Finish Tour Books - 1 hour
  2. Journals predicting the end of The Odyssey - 1/2 hour
  3. Read aloud and discussion - 3/4 hour
  4. Bermuda Triangle disappearances Experiment #2 on Currents - 1/2 hour
  5. Cultural Research of Miami, Puerto Rico, and Bermuda - 3 1/4_ hours

DAY EIGHT
