COSEE SouthEast provides bridges for Dr. Thomas to link the two themes that run throughout her research and academic goals: connecting to climate change, and education and outreach. Her field research, in both Antarctica and the Gulf of Mexico, is connected to climate change, and it also gives her a focal point to engage students and the public. From Carrie's perspective, getting them interested in the science will get them interested in climate change - and vice versa.

All of Carrie's positions within North Carolina State revolve around education and outreach. Whether it's mentoring female students through the WISE program, advising graduate students or implementing the duties of Director of Undergraduate programs for her department, Carrie's goal of getting people engaged in science is what motivates her.
