COSEE-OS and the New England Ocean Science Education Collaborative (NEOSEC) will present this Broader Impacts Collaborations Workshop on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at the Seacoast Science Center in Rye, New Hampshire.

Informal educators will learn the process of successful collaboration, and will come away with resources, tools, and a foundation for collaborative work with a research scientist and their institution.

Scientists whose applications are selected will be paired with an informal educator at the workshop. By participating in this workshop, scientists will increase their awareness about broader impact resources and successful programming, and gain knowledge about how to write an effective broader impact statement. The workshop includes one post-workshop meeting via webinar led by a COSEE-OS facilitator.

COSEE-OS was established in 2005 to design and implement activities that bring ocean sciences to rural and inland communities. User feedback has revealed a need for interactive products and processes that highlight fundamental concepts as well as their "big picture" connections. As a result, COSEE-OS creates and evaluates tools that highlight basic concepts and can be readily applied to other disciplines.

NEOSEC is a diverse networked collaboration of more than forty institutions from across New England, including aquariums, museums, universities, government entities and science and research centers. NEOSEC's mission and collective purpose are to leverage New England's extraordinary assets, to engage the public in understanding the vital connections between people and the ocean.
