Dennis Hansell is a Professor of Chemical Oceanography at the University of Miami. He conducts research on the marine biogeochemistry of the major elements, such as the cycling of ocean carbon and nutrients. His research questions are generally applied to the open ocean and polar seas. He advises graduate students who conduct research in his laboratory, and he teaches oceanography to undergraduates. He has served with numerous national and international science steering committees and as chairman of the Division of Marine and Atmospheric Chemistry at his university. Presently, he serves as chairman of the United States Carbon Cycle Science Steering Group.
