Background with Respect to Ocean Sciences Education:

With over six years’ experience in Hawai‘i’s marine education and science community, I have implemented education and outreach programs to both formal academic institutions spanning elementary through college programs, as well as the general public through community partnerships. I feel that I have acquired a wealth of knowledge and possess the skills and proficiency necessary to assist in the coordination of the Island Earth Program. I have completed a Master’s Degree in Environmental Studies from York University in 2007 while simultaneously acquiring a Graduate Diploma in Environmental and Sustainability Education. Additionally, I am currently working on my dissertation research for my doctorate. With an academic background in both the social and biological sciences, my personal teaching philosophy stems from hands-on, place-based knowledge. My previous role as the outreach and research specialist for the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands Research Partnership at the Hawai‘i Institute of Marine Biology (HIMB) has given me an excellent scientific understanding of the marine environment, and experience with coordination, education, and training through community programs.
