At the Oceans '11/Marine Technology Society/IEEE Annual Conference in Kona, Hawaii, COSEE staff participated in two successful One-Day Teacher Professional Development Workshops on Saturday, September 17, 2011. The workshops were conducted at the Institute for Astronomy (IFA) in Hilo and at the Hilton Waikoloa Village in Kona.

The workshop in Kona conducted by Paula Chavis, Laura Murray and Gail Scowcroft, featured information on Pacific Coral Reefs and Climate Change and a presentation on the Discovery of Sound in the Sea program.

The workshop in Hilo conducted by Erica Moulton and Liesl Hotaling featured three guest speakers (Bobby Bus, “Robotic and the Exploration of our Solar System”, Eric Warmbier “Electrical Components for Amateur ROVs” and Drew Michel, “Marine Technology and the Ocean Workforce) and two hands-on sessions featuring ROV-in-a-Bag, where participants assembled and operated the ROVs, and SENSE IT, where participants constructed water quality sensors.
