Job Openings at COSEE-OS - 08.20.2009
COSEE-OS has two full-time job openings: Marine Education Associate and Research Associate. Both positions will be based at the Marine Education and Outreach Program, University of Maine School of Marine Sciences, Darling Marine Center in Walpole, Maine.
Marine Research Associate
The purpose of the position is to provide professional support to a marine education and outreach program. The position will apply educational research and nationally recognized standards to develop curriculum and pedagogical strategies to deliver marine science content to K-12, college-level, and public audiences. Initial appointment is for one year, with annual reappointment dependent upon external grant funding and performance. The primary location of the position is at the University of Maine’s Darling Marine Center in Walpole, Maine. Required Knowledge / Skills: M. Ed. or B. Sc. in Science Education with background in Marine Science, Earth Science, or Physical sciences; Experience working with science researchers, teachers, and general public; Skill in writing grant proposals; Ability to work in a Mac computing environment to create and maintain project databases, reports, and web content; Willingness to travel extensively.
Research Associate
The purpose of the position is to provide professional support to a marine education and outreach program with particular focus on social networking audiences. The position will apply online collaboration methodology to improve the regional and national programs of the Centers for Ocean Sciences Education Excellence (COSEE). Initial appointment is for one year, with annual reappointment dependent upon external grant funding and performance. The primary location of the position is at the University of Maine’s Darling Marine Center in Walpole, Maine. Required Knowledge / Skills: M.S. in Marine Biology, Oceanography, or related fields; Experience working with science researchers, teachers, and general public in web-based education environments; Skill in writing grant proposals; Ability to work in a Mac computing environment to create and maintain project databases, reports, and web pages; Willingness to travel extensively.
