Ocean Sciences Education in Portugal - 02.06.2012
In December 2011, COSEE-TEK Director Ivar Babb visited Portugal to attend the World Association of Marine Laboratories (WAMS) annual meeting. He took advantage of the opportunity to meet with the leadership of Ciencia Viva (Science Lives) to explore potential collaborative activities with COSEE-TEK. Ciencia Viva is a comprehensive informal science education facility and program in Portugal that is recognized by scientists in Portugal as the “go to” organization for Broader Impacts. For example, Ciencia Viva recently completed a translation of the Ocean Literacy Principles and Concepts document into Portuguese.
Three partnership activities were discussed:
- the possibility of implementing a Portuguese EVA-BOB pilot program
- the development of a joint webinar series focused on the Ocean Literacy Principles and
- exploring the development of COSEE-Portugal.
COSEE-TEK will be actively pursing the implementation of these activities in the coming months.
