Seagrass populations in Florida waters have been significantly reduced in recent years. The causes of this decline are not wholly known, but nutrient loading and excess freshwater runoff are likely contributors. This video describes a little known cause of poor seagrass health – pathogenic infection. In particular, this study evaluated the influence of stress factors, pollution and hotter temperatures, on the ability of seagrasses to inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria.
