Are Scientists Boring Lab Rats?
Category: For Educators
Resource Type: Link
Date Posted: 02/23/2012

The ORCA team addresses the misconception that scientists are boring and that science does not involve creativity. Creative and innovative methods have been used to assess the health of sediments by identifying the toxins and thereby the level of toxicity of the environment. Mapping pollution is a creative way to present scientific data to the general public. Bioluminescent bacteria was used to identify sediment toxicity and confirmed with bioassays. The ORCA scientists developed creative and innovative methods to conduct their experiments at a fraction of the costs required by more technical scientific equipment.
