Why Do Scientists Try to be Objective?
Category: For Educators
Resource Type: Link
Date Posted: 02/21/2012

Objectivity is the ability to observe and report something without personal bias. In this study, clams were evaluated for their tolerance to temperature and salinity. Special tools were utilized to ensure that the data were objectively collected, such as using the appropriate equipment for measurements and a random experimental design for data collection. Peer-review is a common method for eliminating subjectivity and promoting more objective approaches.
