COSEE Coastal Trends has brought scientists, educators, and students together to conduct research and develop classroom materials based on that research. Materials produced by these teams have been evaluated and field-tested by teachers to ensure usability and reviewed by scientists to guarantee technical accuracy. The collaborative processes at the heart of COSEE Coastal Trends’ programs have allowed participants to share their knowledge and gain new expertise. For example, teachers have the opportunity to conduct laboratory and fieldwork. Scientists gain insight on how data can be used to create a sense of place that engages audiences. Graduate and undergraduate students receive unique research experience and valuable training on how to communicate science to general audiences.
