Marine laboratories are traditionally places that, by their nature, foster a diverse community of ocean learners. COSEE Pacific Partnerships draws on that community to integrate marine research and education for faculty and students at community colleges and for staff and volunteers at informal science education institutions. Through our partnerships we are:
Increasing the role of ocean scientists, especially those based at marine laboratories, in education and outreach;
Increasing educational and professional development opportunities for community college faculty, which in turn will increase the ocean literacy and career potential of community college students;
Increasing educational and professional development opportunities in ocean literacy for informal science educational professionals and volunteers; and
Formalizing models that can be disseminated to the broader ocean sciences and education communities.
