Climate Science Teacher Institute

Location: Hawai‘i Institute of Marine Biology on Moku o Lo‘e (Coconut Island) in Kaneohe, Oahu
Attendance: High school science teachers

This seminar is oriented towards high school science teachers who want to get a solid foundation in climate science and learn how to better communicate climate change to their students. The material is focused on how the Earth's climate functions, how scientists study and model climate change, and the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems, in particular coral reefs. Content will be aligned to Hawai'i Content and Performance Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards.

The Climate Science Teacher Institute is organized by the Hawai'i Institute of Marine Biology (HIMB) and the Centers for Ocean Sciences Educational Excellence (COSEE Island Earth) with support from the Pacific Resources for Education and Learning (PREL). Participating teachers will receive a $350 stipend. Applications will be accepted until April 18 and participation is limited to 20 teachers.
