Creating concept maps at a COSEE-OS workshop
This workshop will center on teams of educators and scientists who will create online learning resources that align with National Science Education Standards, Climate Literacy Principles, and Ocean Literacy Principles. Topics will center on the current-edge research topics of the internationally known scientists who will fully participate in all aspects of the workshop (1:3 scientist:educators ratio). Teams will create online concept maps that dynamically evolve over the course of the workshop and beyond into the classroom setting. Educators will walk away from the workshop with their own personalized version of products that can be customized for their students and their classroom needs. Some of the anticipated results:
  • Valid translation of research science for a variety of audiences - starting within the flexible structure of COSEE-OS concept mapping techniques
  • Sharing understanding of good education practices and real-world scenarios with practicing scientists to help improve their teaching skills
  • Introduction to new multi-media interactive tools to help reach target audiences

This workshop will include an informal social event on Friday evening where scientists and educators will be able to chat and participate in hands-on climate change activities.
