Date: 02/15/12 6:15 pm PT - 02/18/12 3:30 pm PT

COSEE West and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory Earth Science EPO invite you to learn more about climate and our oceans at this FREE lecture AND workshop in the 2011-2012 series co-sponsored by Boeing.

Effects of El Niño on the Equatorial Pacific Ocean
Speaker: Dr. Michelle Gierach, Scientist, Oceans and Ice Group, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory
Hosted by: NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory

What is El Niño and how is it related to global climate? Did you know there was more than one El Niño in the Pacific Ocean? Come hear Dr. Gierach’s talk about her cutting edge research on how two types of El Niño impact the physical and biological states of the equatorial Pacific differently.

Dr. Gierach is a scientist in the Oceans and Ice Group at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Her research interests include ocean-atmospheric interactions, ocean dynamics, atmospheric processes, and the oceans relation to climate variability utilizing satellite data, field observations, and model simulations. She received her Ph.D. in marine science from the University of South Carolina in 2009.
