Teaching 21st Century Skills

Teaching 21st Century Skills is geared for all educators and will explore how to incorporate the 4 C’s (communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity) into the curriculum. Utilizing podcasts, articles, clips and a classic text, participants will consider skills necessary for students in the 21st century. Taught by Amy Albanese, M Ed and Tracy Kelly, M Ed.

Course Description: As Ken Kay points out in the introduction to 21st Century Skills: Rethinking How Students Learn, “Students need both content knowledge and skills to apply and transform their knowledge for useful and creative purposes and to keep learning as content and circumstances change.” Teaching 21st Century Skills is geared for all educators and will explore skills necessary to prepare today’s students for the future. Participants of the course will begin to think about how to incorporate the 4 C’s (communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity) into the core curriculum and think about how these skills apply to our curriculum in schools today. In this course, participants will utilize podcasts, articles and a classic text, Peddiwell’s The Saber Tooth Curriculum, to explore and discuss the latest research in 21st century skills. Participants will reflect on how these skills impact their own methodologies and curriculum. They will be encouraged to consider alternative strategies in order to fully incorporate 21st century skills into their existing curriculum, thus better preparing their students and encouraging life-long learners.
Cost: $150 payable to The College of Exploration.
Graduate credit: Available through our partnership with Ashland University (an accredited institution in Ohio) for an additional $175 plus $15 tech fee. Register and purchase graduate credit by visiting the Ashland University website.
