Dr. Richard Fulford is a quantitative fisheries scientist at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory in Ocean Springs, MS. He has a Ph.D. in Zoology from North Carolina State University and holds the title of Assistant professor of coastal sciences at the University of Southern Mississippi. His expertise is in the application of mathematical models to the improvement of our understanding of how aquatic communities are structured and how this information can be used to better manage our marine natural resources. His specific research involves trophic interactions and fish-habitat interactions of important fish species. He has worked on fisheries issues in the Great Lakes, Chesapeake Bay and the Gulf of Mexico and serves as an advisor to the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council and the Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission. Dr. Fulford also has three beautiful children and loves to take them fishing.
